Side-by-Side Image Comparison

Compare Two Dental X-rays Easily with Side-by-Side Viewing

Comparing two dental X-rays helps detect subtle changes over time—like bone loss, root resorption, or healing after a procedure. With Xrays.Dental, you can easily view two images side-by-side for direct, real-time comparison.

This feature is available inside the Imaging Workspace and is ideal for follow-ups, case presentations, or insurance documentation.

What is Side-by-Side Comparison?

Side-by-side comparison lets you view two X-rays next to each other—either from different dates or two different angles (e.g., bitewing vs. periapical)—so you can detect changes or track progress over time.

How to Compare Images Side-by-Side

Step-by-step:

  1. Open the Patient Profile from the main list

  2. Enter the Imaging Workspace (also known as the X-ray Viewer)

  3. In the top bar, locate the dropdown: Previous Image Dates

  4. Select a past X-ray to compare

  5. The current and selected X-ray will now appear side-by-side

Tools Available in Comparison Mode:

  • Zoom & Pan each image independently

  • Brightness & Contrast controls for better viewing

  • Annotations & Measurements to mark findings on both sides

  • Sync View to match the zoom level or scroll together

Why Use It?

  • Track healing after extractions or surgeries

  • Compare before-and-after treatment

  • Monitor bone level changes

  • Explain diagnoses to patients clearly

  • Provide evidence for insurance claims

Reset or Exit Comparison

Click “Exit Comparison” in the top toolbar anytime to return to the standard single-image view.
